'Facit Incudo' at Loading Bay Gallery, TERRY, Portadown

24th October - 6th December 2019

A solo exhibition of contemporary sculpture by Patrick Colhoun.

‘Facit Incudo’ is Patrick Colhoun’s first solo exhibition of 2019 and follows on from last year’s  ‘Zeropointsixsixrecurring…’ at Golden Thread Gallery and participation is a collateral exhibition at this year’s Venice Biennale.

The title ‘Facit Incudo’ is derived from the discovery that the artist’s father had signed ‘Facit RG Colhoun 1965’ on a piece of furniture that he made.

As ‘Facit’ is Latin for ‘make’ and ‘Incudo’ translates as ‘Inlay’, this reflects the fine furniture with intricate marquetry made by RG Colhoun in the evenings after working during the day in the NI Civil Service.

This exhibition is Patrick Colhoun’s twisted, contemporary take on the skill of marquetry, using ceramic as the inlay into hardwood salvaged from his late father’s workshop.

This is where Terry comes in, because this all matches the values of TERRY.

Contemporary work influenced by the craftsmanship that has been handed down through the generations. The Loading Bay Gallery is right in the heart of the TERRY operation. Surrounded by the designers and craftspeople who are putting their own very contemporary twist on things whilst using very traditional skills and materials.
